A Long-Lost Bay Window Set on Clinton

The first time I saw this window, it was a sad sight. I wasn’t even sure what colours it was. Its twin partners were in better shape, but not by much.

This set had been in a basement for thirty years when I got called in.

Glass loves to be clean, and this glass turned out to be gorgeous.

A lot of the old Victorian glass isn’t made anymore, but this was a lucky set, and I was able to get very close matches for the missing parts.

The eye is nice about that. In practice, the eye will compensate for big shifts in colour, making them all the same.

The window frame had been renovated, and was not the same shape as the old window. To compensate, I added a thin lower border and a fin of black on the side. As pure black, these vanish into the frame. In practice, you have to look for these changes to notice them.

The end result is that this set is back in place on Clinton, exactly as it should be, having been painted over, shattered, and abandoned for a generation. These things take nasty hits sometimes, but they can be fixed. This set made it through.
