A Lancet Side Window with a Gothic Border in Riverdale

This window captures a thin slice of Riverdale. The coloured strip near the tope is Danforth. The large blue panel in the lower centre is the Riverdale Library on Gerrard.

This lancet window in Riverdale is a bathroom window, high above a lane. It needs shielding, but not total privacy.

At this point, I was starting to understand my colour system. Houses were clear, schools were turquoise, institutions were blue.. Commerce was strips of pink and (soon) yellow. It’s a grammar. This was the window where I figured it out, but I didn’t act on it until the next one, on Yarmouth.

My clients wanted strong colours—cathedral colours—but not full opacity. That’s why I went with a clear middle and a full Venetian-Gothic Border.

This is the first window where I used corrugated glass to show a toboggan slope, in Riverdale Park.
